Google Merchants/Shopping - Create Your Data Feed (Upload a data feed)

After you have created and registered your data feed, you can upload a data file into it.
Note: If you submit your items for the first time to a particular target country, it may take up to 2 business days for your items to be reviewed and begin appearing in our search results. To minimize delays, please ensure that your data feed conforms to our feed specifications and program policies. Learn more about our product status definitions.

Upload Options

If you are new to Merchant Center a direct upload may be easiest option. We recommend files smaller than 20 MB to be directly uploaded via the Google Merchant Center Data feeds page. It is easier to submit your file this way, and you're less likely to encounter errors commonly associated with FTP.
Note: If you're submitting a compressed file, your file must be under 500 MB. If your file is larger than 500 MB please split your file into multiple, smaller files before uploading.
When uploading your data feed to Google Merchant Center, you have three upload options. Once you have uploaded a data feed, you may also create a schedule to update your feed automatically.
  1. Sign in to http://www.google.com/merchants and click the Data feeds link. (Make sure you've already registeredyour filename in your account.)
  2. Locate your feed from the list of registered files. In the Uploads column, click the upload file link associated with the file you'd like to submit.
  3. In the pop-up window, click the Browse... button.
  4. Navigate to the folder on your computer where your feed is. Select the file you're submitting and click Open. The name of the file you selected will appear in the field to the left of the Browse... button. The filenames must match, so it is important to verify this.
  5. After you've verified your filenames match, click Upload and process this file.
The upload may take several minutes, depending on the size of your file and the speed of your Internet connection. Once your file has been uploaded, you'll see notification on your screen if the upload was a success. The status of any feed can be found on this Data feeds page. It can take up to 24 hours for your file details to be updated in your account.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a means of submitting large amounts of product listings. Learn more about FTP

The automatic upload option allows you to create an uploading schedule for your data feed hosted on your website. Based on the schedule you create, the Google Merchant Center will then download the file from your website and upload it to your account for you.
For more information about scheduling and server or website options, click here.
Tips:
  • Send us a data feed as often as your item information changes -- up to once per day, but remember to upload a new feed at least once a month.
  • If you submit multiple data feeds, keep each item in the same data feed with each submission. Avoid moving your items to different feeds.

How many items can I submit to my account?

We strive to allow merchants to submit their full inventory of products. However, all accounts have a default limit of items than can be submitted.
If you’re submitting a large number of items, you will receive a notification in your account when you’re approaching or have reached your current limit.

Google Merchants/Shopping - Create Your Data Feed (Submit apparel products)

Apparel and items that fall within the broad categorization of Apparel & Accessories (e.g. Shoes, Handbags, Jewelry, Accessories, etc.) comprise a large chunk of online sales. Google is investing in making the shopping experience for Apparel much richer and more intuitive. Apparel is also unique in that shoppers often browse / look for items of a specific color, size, pattern, or material. Accordingly, we require that merchants send us variant attributes, which are ‘color’, ‘size’, ‘pattern’, or ‘material’.This article will help you determine which attributes are required and which are recommended for apparel products; however, please be sure to review the Feed Specification carefully as well.

Simple Apparel Products

For non-variant apparel items, you must submit your apparel product data using the four required apparel attributes -- 'size', 'color', 'age group', and 'gender'.
In addition, it is required to provide unique product identifiers like 'brand' according to the Unique Product Identifier Rules.
idtitlecolorsizeage groupgenderbrand
001Custom made flower dressBlueSmallAdultFemale
002Roxy green boys sweatshirtGreenMediumKidsMaleRoxy
For feeds targeting the US, UK, DE, FR, and JP: ‘Color’, ‘age group’, and ‘gender’ are required for all items that fall under the ‘Apparel & Accessories’ product category (including subcategories). In addition, the ‘size’ attribute is only required for items that fall under the category or subcategories of 'Apparel & Accessories > Clothing' and 'Apparel & Accessories > Shoes'.
For all other countries: ‘Size’, ‘color’, ‘age group’, and ‘gender’ are recommended for any item that falls under the ‘Apparel & Accessories’ product category (including subcategories).

Variant Apparel Products

The attributes 'color', 'material', 'pattern', and 'size' are used to describe how one product varies from another in the same group.
In addition to the variant attributes it is required to include the apparel attributes -- 'color', 'age group', 'gender', and ‘brand’ -- to describe and identify your apparel products. Please note, we do not consider products to vary by either 'gender' or 'age group' -- your variant products must vary by one of the four variant attributes (‘color, ‘material’, ‘pattern’, or ‘size’).
It is also required to submit an image for each ‘color’, ‘material’, or ‘pattern’ variant which visually depicts that specific variant product. You may however submit the same image URL value for all size variants of a product if specific images are not available.
You are required to submit one item per variant combination. For example, if a t-shirt is offered in 4 different colors and each color is available in 5 different sizes, you must submit a total of 20 items.
The ‘Item group ID’ attribute is different from the ‘ID’ attribute. An ‘Item group ID’ attribute will have common values for a group of variants whereas the ‘ID’ attribute should have unique values across a group of variants and for all other items, as well.
How to include apparel variants for feeds targeting US, UK, DE, FR, and JP: Any apparel item that varies by 'color', 'material', 'pattern', and/or 'size', must be submitted as a unique combination of variant attributes, clustered in a group where each unique combination of variant attributes is identified by the same ‘item group id’. Along with each variant, a respective image that visually depicts that variant product is required. Regardless of whether an apparel item has variant attributes or not, the ‘size’, ‘color’, ‘age group’, and ‘gender’ of an item are required for all items that fall under the ‘Apparel & Accessories’ product category (including subcategories).
In addition, the ‘size’ attribute is only required for items that fall under the category or subcategories of 'Apparel & Accessories > Clothing' and 'Apparel & Accessories > Shoes'. See below for an outline of required attributes that apply to feeds targeting the US, UK, DE, FR, and JP.

Google Merchants/Shopping - Create Your Data Feed (Tax & Shipping)

Overview

The tax setting should only be used for merchants submitting feeds to the US. Please do not use this setting if you are not submitting feeds to the US. For Canada and India, it is required to submit prices which are exclusive of applicable taxes (including, for example, value added tax). For all other countries, it is required to submit prices which are tax inclusive.
You can submit this information in two ways:
  1. Set account-level default values in your Google Merchant Center account: These preferences will serve as the default values for all of your items. This is the easiest way to set up tax and shipping for your account.
  2. Include item-level override values in your data feeds or via the API: These values will override your account-level default settings for that item.

Tax (US only)

You have three options in your Google Merchant Center account:
  1. Opt to not charge tax.
  2. Set a tax rate based on the state an item ships to.
  3. Use an estimate based on the destination ZIP code. Note: To estimate the tax rate, we use data from Tax Data Systems based on the destination ZIP code.
You can also include item-level override values using the new 'tax' attribute, which replaces the attributes 'tax percent' and 'tax region'.
Important: For your tax rate to appear in the search results, it is required to have shipping submitted for your items.
The 'tax' attribute is an item-level override for merchant-level tax settings as defined in your Google Merchant Center account.

Format:
Each tax attribute group consists of four sub-attributes:

NameRequirementDescriptionExamples
countryoptionalThe country an item is taxed in (as an ISO 3166 country code)US
regionoptionalThe geographic region that a tax rate applies to, e.g., in the US, the two-letter state abbreviation, ZIP code, or ZIP code range using * wildcardCA, 946*
raterequiredThe tax rate as a percent of the item price, i.e., number, as a percentage8.25
tax shipoptionalBoolean value for whether you charge tax on shipping, y for yes or n for no - the default value is ny

Note:If country and region are not included, we assume the rate is for the target country of the item. If region is included, then country must be included as well. If region is not included, the rate is for the entire country. If tax ship is not included, the default value is 'n'.
    Tab-delimited example:
Separate each sub-attribute with a colon, and each tax attribute group with a comma. All colons, even for blank values, are required, i.e., three colons are required.

    Shipping

You have three options in your Google Merchant Center account:
    1. Specify a flat shipping rate (or free shipping).
    2. Define custom tables if the shipping rate you charge varies by price, weight, or number of items. Note: If you define a table based on the number of items, for now, we'll use the rate in the first row only.
    3. (US only) Apply a carrier-calculated rate if the shipping rate you charge is based on rates from UPS, FedEx, or USPS. Note: We use daily rates for UPS, and standard (non-retail counter) rates for FedEx.
If you use either the carrier-calculated option (US only) or the weight-based table option, please be sure to include the'shipping weight' attribute. You can include item-level override values if, for instance, you sell oversized items, calculate a specific rate for each item, or have separate rates for specific regions. Please use the revised 'shipping' attribute for this option.

Note: Please remember that you must only provide direct-to-consumer shipping rates, as per our Program Policies. Rates for other methods, like ship-to-store delivery, are not allowed.

The 'shipping' attribute is an item-level override for merchant-level shipping settings as defined in your Google Merchant Center account.

    Format:
Each shipping attribute group consists of four sub-attributes:

    NameRequirementDescriptionExamples
countryrequiredThe country an item will ship to (as an ISO 3166 country code)US
regionoptionalThe geographic region that a shipping rate applies to, e.g., in the US, the two-letter state abbreviation, ZIP code, or ZIP code range using * wildcard
Note: Please be aware that values of the shipping attribute should be in order from the most specific to the most broad geographic target areas. For example, please put all the zip code level shipping attribute values first, and end with the broadest shipping attribute values for the whole US that apply when no other more specific values apply.

pricerequiredFixed shipping price (including VAT). Only ship-to-consumer rates are allowed.7.95 USD

Note: If country isn't included, we'll assume the shipping price applies to the target country of the item. If region isn't included, the shipping price will apply across the entire country.
    Tab-delimited example:
Separate each sub-attribute with a colon, and each shipping attribute group with a comma. All colons, even for blank values, are required, i.e., three colons are required.

        US
        MA
        Ground
        5.95 USD

    Shipping Defaults

You can setup one shipping default per region. For example, if you are submitting products to both Google Shopping US and Google Shopping Germany, you could set up one shipping default with the region as Germany and the other with the shipping region as the US. The US default rule will then be applied to your offers submitted to Google Shopping US, and the German default rule will be applied to your offers submitted to Google Shopping US. This allows you to automatically show accurate shipping information for products targeted in different regions.
